South Africa Botswana Zimbabwe Itinerary

An expert-guided, 17-day conservation and wildlife journey through roaring waterfalls, monumental granite hills, and wild elephant corridors.

Day 1: Arrival in Johannesburg, South Africa

Welcome to South Africa! Upon landing at O.R. Tambo International Airport, you will be greeted by your expert tour guide and transferred to the Airport
Game Lodge (or similar). Take the afternoon to unwind, soak in the tranquil lodge surroundings, and prepare for the journey ahead.

We start early, driving north through South Africa’s scenic landscapes to Mapungubwe National Park. Step back in time as you discover the golden kingdom of Mapungubwe, built by ancient ancestors, and marvel at the incredible rock architecture and river vistas where South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Botswana meet.

Today we cross into Zimbabwe and travel toward the iconic Great Zimbabwe National Monument. Arrive and check into your lodge, surrounded by lush vegetation and stone architectural design echoing the historic ruins nearby.

Spend a fascinating day touring the stone structures of Great Zimbabwe National Monument, learning about the Great Enclosure and medieval trading empires. In the afternoon, enjoy a scenic drive to the impressive Kyle Dam Wall on Lake Mutirikwi..

After breakfast, depart for Bulawayo, Zimbabwe’s second-largest city, richly steeped in Ndebele culture. Journey into Matobo National Park. for an extraordinary thrill: on-foot tracking of endangered white and black rhinos alongside experienced park rangers.

Enjoy another morning tracking rhinos and exploring the granite kopjes of Matobo National Park.. In the afternoon, ascend the granite outcrops to the grave of Cecil John Rhodes at World’s View, offering panoramic 360-degree vistas over the ancient landscapes.

Pass through the historic center of Bulawayo before traveling north to Hwange National Park, Zimbabwe’s largest and most famous wildlife preserve. Arrive at your lodge in time for an afternoon game drive as the wilderness comes alive.

Spend the entire day exploring the vast wilderness of Hwange National Park. Known for its massive herds of elephants, abundant lions, leopards, cheetahs, and diverse birdlife, this full-day game drive promises non-stop safari action.

Drive through the historic mining town of Hwange with a visit to the Wild Dog Conservation Centre to learn about painted dog preservation. Continue to Victoria Falls and enjoy a guided walk along the misty rainforest trails bordering the roaring waterfall.

Enjoy a day at leisure in Africa’s adventure capital. Choose from thrilling optional activities such as white-water rafting on the Zambezi, scenic helicopter flights over the falls (“Flight of Angels”), or bungee jumping off the Victoria Falls Bridge.

Cross the border into Botswana and arrive in Kasane, gateway to Chobe National Park. Settle in along the riverbank and spend the afternoon relaxing or partaking in optional village or nature walks.

Travel south from Chobe toward Nata. Enjoy a relaxing stopover near the edge of the Makgadikgadi Pans, witnessing striking salt-pan horizons and vibrant birdlife before heading toward Maun.

An early drive brings us to Maun, the safari capital of the Okavango Delta, and onward into the famous Moremi Game Reserve. Known for its wetland habitats and incredible predator densities, spend the day exploring wild river loops and woodlands.

Spend a second full day immersed in Moremi Game Reserve. Navigate untouched savannahs and seasonal floodplains in search of wild dogs, lions, leopards, and vast herds of buffalo and elephant.

Drive back to Maun. Spend your final afternoon at leisure—relax by the lodge pool, shop for local crafts, or opt for a breathtaking scenic flight over the Okavango Delta.

After breakfast, transfer to Maun Airport for your onward homeward connection, taking home unforgettable memories of Southern Africa’s finest treasures.
