DAY-BY-DAY EXPEDITION GUIDE

Trip Arround Zimbabwe Itinerary

An expert-guided, 11-day conservation and wildlife journey through roaring waterfalls, monumental granite hills, and wild elephant corridors.

Day 1: Welcome to Victoria Falls

Upon arrival at Victoria Falls International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed and transferred to your accommodation. Spend the rest of the day settling in, relaxing by the pool, and recovering from your journey. In the late afternoon, you have the option to explore the vibrant town or simply enjoy a quiet dinner as you prepare for the adventure ahead.

After breakfast, embark on a guided walking tour of the majestic Victoria Falls, one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World. Feel the spray and hear the roar of the Zambezi River plunging into the gorge. After the tour, you will begin your road transfer south to Hwange National Park, Zimbabwe’s largest and most famous wildlife reserve. Arrive in time for dinner and an evening relaxing under the African stars.

Rise early for a full day of spectacular game viewing in Hwange. Known for its massive elephant herds, lions, leopards, wild dogs, and abundant plains game, the park offers an unforgettable safari experience. You will explore various waterholes and diverse landscapes, enjoying a packed picnic lunch in the wild before returning to your lodge in the late afternoon.

Today you will drive south past Bulawayo toward the mystical Matobo (Matopos) National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its dramatic, balancing granite rock formations and rich ancient history. Arrive at your hilltop lodge, take in the breathtaking panoramic views, and enjoy a relaxing evening.

Start your morning with an exhilarating, guided Rhino Trek on foot—Matobo is one of the best places in the world to see both black and white rhinos up close in their natural habitat. In the afternoon, visit the historical “World’s View” (Malindidzimu) to see the grave of Cecil John Rhodes. The 360-degree views of the rugged, boulder-strewn landscape from this summit are truly spectacular.

Leave Matopos and drive east to Masvingo. In the afternoon, take a guided walking tour of the Great Zimbabwe Monument, the largest ancient stone structure south of the Sahara. Marvel at the Great Enclosure and the Hill Complex, learning about the rich history of the Shona empire. Conclude the day with a visit to the nearby Lake Mutirikwi (Kyle) dam wall for scenic views before heading to your hotel.

Make an early start to drive towards Silveira Mission. You will navigate the scenic descent down the Hanyanya Mountain, taking in the sweeping views of the surrounding rural landscape. Spend the afternoon and evening in a local village for a genuine cultural immersion. Engage with the locals, learn about traditional Zimbabwean village life, share stories around the fire, and sleep in the village for an authentic, unforgettable experience.

Bid farewell to your village hosts and drive east into the lush, mountainous Eastern Highlands. Arrive in the rugged Chimanimani region and visit the enchanting Bridal Veil Falls, nestled in a pristine forested valley. Spend the afternoon exploring the mountainous terrain before checking into the historic Chimanimani Hotel.

Get an early start for the scenic drive north to Nyanga National Park, an area characterized by rolling hills, pine forests, and cool mountain air. Today’s highlight is a guided hike to the summit of Mount Nyangani. As Zimbabwe’s highest peak, it offers sweeping, cloud-level views of the highlands. After the descent, check into your hotel and relax by a warm log fire.

Spend the day discovering the spectacular water features of Nyanga. Visit Mutarazi Falls, the highest waterfall in Zimbabwe (and second highest in Africa), where you can view the dramatic drop into the Honde Valley. Next, visit the beautiful Pungwe Falls and take in the magnificent vistas of the Pungwe Gorge before returning to your hotel.

After breakfast, enjoy a beautiful drive out of the Eastern Highlands descending into Harare, Zimbabwe’s bustling capital. Check into your hotel and spend the afternoon at your leisure. You can explore local craft markets, visit the botanical gardens, or simply enjoy the amenities of your hotel.

  • For guests ending their tour: Enjoy breakfast before transferring to Harare International Airport for your departure flight.

  • For guests continuing on the safari extension: Depart Harare early in the morning and drive north, descending the dramatic Zambezi Escarpment into the famous Mana Pools National Park. Check into your National Parks Chalets situated right on the banks of the Zambezi River.

Spend three full days exploring the incredible wilderness of Mana Pools, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Embark on extensive morning and afternoon game drives through the mahogany and acacia forests. Look out for the park’s famous elephant bulls that stand on their hind legs to reach high branches, as well as large prides of lion, elusive leopards, and painted wild dogs. Enjoy spectacular sunsets over the Zambezi River with the mountains of Zambia in the background.

Enjoy one last glorious sunrise and a short morning game drive along the floodplains. After breakfast, pack up and begin the scenic drive back up the escarpment to Harare. Arrive in the late afternoon, check into your hotel, and enjoy a farewell dinner reflecting on your incredible Zimbabwean adventure.

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast at your hotel. Depending on your flight schedule, you will be transferred to Harare International Airport for your onward journey, bringing your spectacular 17-day grand tour to an end.
